Professor Ambrose O Isah graduated from the University of Ibadan Medical School in 1979, He obtained his doctorate degree (MD) in 1995 at the Wolfson Unit of Clinical Pharmacology, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom. Professor Isah has served on the academic staff of the University of Benin Medical School and Consultant Physician/Clinical Pharmacologist since 1989. He is a Past Dean of the Medical School and pioneer Head, Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CPT) and Chair, Subspecialty of CPT of the West African Postgraduate Medical College. Professor Isah played a key role in the establishment of the Pharmacovigilance (PV) system in Nigeria. He is Chair of the National Drug Safety Advisory Committee and Past Vice President of the African Society of Pharmacovigilance. Prof Isah was the Lead in the development of the WHO reference standards for the Drug Use Indicators as well as WHO PV Indicators. He served as a member of the WHO Expert Panel and a Consultant, WHO Uppsala Monitoring Centre, Sweden. He is a Work Package Lead of PAVIA - an EDCTP sponsored PV Project in Africa. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine (FNAMed), Fellow of the West African Society of Pharmacology (FWASP) and a recipient of the University of Ibadan Most Distinguished Alumnus Award 2021.
